Common Domain Actions

This page explains the most common actions you may use for a domain after it is attached to your account.

The exact options available in Dash can vary depending on the domain extension, registrar support, and current domain lifecycle state.

Before making any domain change

Before changing any domain setting, always confirm:

  • you selected the correct domain
  • the domain is in the correct lifecycle state
  • you understand whether the change affects DNS, transfer, renewal, or ownership-related information

Some changes may take time to apply fully, especially when they affect DNS behavior.

Review domain status

One of the most common tasks is checking the current domain status.

This helps you confirm whether the domain is:

  • active
  • pending
  • in transfer
  • close to expiry
  • affected by a billing or lifecycle issue

Use the domain overview section when you need a quick status check before taking any further action.

Update WHOIS information

Some domains allow you to review or update WHOIS-related information from the management section.

This is commonly used when you need to:

  • correct contact details
  • update registrant information
  • review visible ownership-related records

Always make sure the information is accurate before saving changes.

Manage nameservers

A common domain management task is reviewing or updating nameservers.

Nameservers determine where the domain points for DNS management.

Before changing nameservers, make sure:

  • you are using the correct nameserver values
  • the target DNS environment is already prepared
  • you understand that DNS changes may take time to apply fully

Use this option when you want the domain to use custom DNS outside the default provider setup.

Choose between provider DNS and custom DNS

Some domains may show a choice between using provider-managed DNS and custom nameservers.

This is useful when you want to decide whether DNS should be controlled inside the platform or through another DNS provider.

Before switching modes, make sure you understand where the active DNS zone should be managed.

Manage transfer lock

Some domains allow you to enable or disable transfer lock.

Transfer lock helps protect the domain from unauthorized transfer requests.

This setting is commonly reviewed when:

  • you want to keep the domain protected
  • you plan to transfer the domain and need to unlock it first

Always confirm the current transfer plan before changing this setting.

Manage WHOIS privacy

If WHOIS privacy is available for the domain, you may be able to enable or disable it from the management section.

This setting is commonly used when you want to:

  • reduce public exposure of contact details
  • review the current privacy state
  • adjust the visibility level of domain ownership-related data

Availability can depend on the extension and registrar support.

Request the EPP code

If you plan to transfer the domain away or need transfer-related information, the management section may provide an option to request the EPP code.

Before requesting the EPP code, make sure:

  • the domain is eligible for transfer
  • transfer lock is disabled if required
  • you are ready to continue the transfer process

Manage child nameservers or glue records

Some domains may provide options for child nameservers or glue records.

This is usually relevant when you want to create or manage custom nameservers under your own domain.

Use this carefully, especially if the domain is already active in production.

Manage DNSSEC records

If DNSSEC management is available for the domain, you may be able to review or update DNSSEC-related settings.

This is used when you want to improve DNS trust and integrity for the domain.

Before making DNSSEC changes, make sure the target DNS setup is ready and correctly configured.

Review renewal details

Another common action is reviewing the renewal state of the domain.

This helps you confirm:

  • expiry date
  • next renewal timing
  • renewal-related notices
  • related invoice state

Review renewal details early so you can avoid interruption caused by expiration or unpaid invoices.

Use quick renewal if available

Some domain views may include a quick renewal action or a similar renewal shortcut.

Use this when you want to handle renewal directly from the domain view instead of navigating through billing first.

Before renewing, always review:

  • the current expiry date
  • whether a related invoice already exists
  • the visible billing state of the domain

Review recent requests

Some domain panels may display a recent requests area or similar history section.

This helps you review whether a management request was recently submitted, such as:

  • nameserver changes
  • WHOIS updates
  • transfer-related requests
  • other domain management actions

Use this area when you want to confirm whether a request was already made.

When a setting or action does not appear correctly

If a domain setting is missing, unavailable, or not updating as expected:

  • refresh the page
  • wait a short moment and check again
  • confirm the domain is in the correct lifecycle state
  • verify there is no billing issue
  • review whether the domain is still processing or transferring

If the issue continues, contact support and include:

  • domain name
  • the exact setting or action involved
  • any visible error message
